Preventive dentistry focuses on prevention of dental diseases and helps to maintain a healthy smile for life. From regular check-ups and cleans to well-fitting mouthguards, we endeavor to look after your dental needs under one roof to prevent more complicated and costly dental problems in the future.
Dental examinations every 6 months allows the dentist to monitor your dental health, discuss any concerns, diagnose any issues that arise and treat them early before they turn into a complicated, expensive and involved dental problems.
During these exams, your dentist will perform a set of routine procedures that may include the following:
- Discuss any health issues that may affect your dental or oral health
- Professionally clean your teeth and gums
- Assess your mouth for cavities, gum disease, root decay, etc.
- Take dental X-rays where required
- Check for jaw or bite alignment issues
Although they are not required at every dental visit, dental x-rays are an important diagnostic tool. They allow seeing problems beyond what a human eye can see and identify. They are designed to pick up problems such as internal cavities, infections due to a dead nerve and inadequate, old and leaking fillings. All those issues left untreated can turn into irreversible and dangerous conditions. In combination with a visual exam, they provide for a thorough examination. X-ray films are placed inside your mouth and are processed within a few minutes to allow for a clear digital picture of the area.
Scale and clean
Also referred to as ‘Scale and Polish’, it involves removing soft plaque deposits, food debris and hard plaque buildup, usually with the aid of an ultrasonic cleaner from above and below the gum line. Your teeth are then polished to remove any surface deposits and superficial staining.
Fissure Sealants are recommended for young patients as a preventative measure against the risks of dental decay. Fissure sealant is a thin, white, plastic coating that is applied to the chewing surfaces of permanent teeth. It seals the deep grooves and fissures that are sometimes impossible to keep clean. This helps to keep plaque and bacteria away from the vulnerable tooth surfaces and therefore protects your tooth from caries.
We provide custom-made mouthguards that offer optimum protection to your teeth while you are playing sports or undertaking activities that may expose your face and mouth to sudden impact or collision.
Your dentist will take a dental impression of your teeth and mouth before using the precise dimensions to custom fit you with a personalised mouthguard. Unlike over-the-counter mouthguards that can fit poorly, our close-fitting mouthguards can absorb and minimise any direct impact.
