Dermal Fillers
As we get older, our skin starts to lose that supple and voluminous quality – along with it, a certain glow and radiance. As our skin slows down its production of collagen, the main structural protein responsible for the plumpness of skin, our face begins to look gaunt and sunken while lines and creases start to appear. To restore the youthful volume and get rid of those facial lines, we can turn to the latest specialist dermal filler injectable treatments. Administering Hyaluronic Acid gel into the skin, we can literally “fill” these lines and grooves restoring youthful volume to the face.
We use only the best Dermal Fillers in Melbourne. Non-Animal Sourced Hyaluronic acid dermal filler which is temporary and reversible. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in our skin, muscles and connective tissue. Due to its moisturising properties, it is a common ingredient in moisturisers and eye drops. It is broken down by a natural occurring enzyme and hence the effect is only temporary and can be reversed. It is relatively long lasting, being non-animal sourced, doesn’t require prior skin testing and has effectively no down time.
Depending on your specific concern or skin type, we will recommend a product or method that addresses your individual needs.
Our Dermal Filler Treatments can help:
- Soften Marionette Lines – crease lines that extends from corner of mouth to the chin.
- Soften Lip lines – also known as ‘smoker’s lines’, these are vertical lines that form around your lip area
- Soften Nasolabial Folds – crease lines that extends from the nose to the corners of the mouth
- Fill in strategic areas of your face that make your cheeks appear more defined or prominent
We have the right skills and experience to achieve the natural-looking outcomes that complement your unique facial features.

Like all dental and medical procedures, there’s always an element of risk involved that will be discussed with you at the time of consultation.
Am I Suitable?
During the consultation process, we will assess your facial structure and discuss your requirements in order to recommend the treatment that best meets your individual needs.
You may not be suitable for lip fillers if you are allergic or have hypersensitivity to local anaesthetic or hyaluronic acid products. The area to be treated on should be free of inflammation or infection.
Other unsuitable candidates include those who:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Are under 18
- Have auto-immune disease
- Have streptococcal disease
- Are taking blood thinners
- Have multiple allergies
What material is used?
The only material used is a Non-Animal Sourced Hyaluronic acid dermal filler which is temporary and reversible. It is a substance that is naturally present in a human body. It is water-loving and can be described as the nature’s moisturiser which is why it is a common ingredient in moisturisers and eye drops. Depending on assessment of your facial structures, your treatment needs and your areas of concern, there are several types of dermal fillers that we can recommend. They vary depending on the type of treatment and depth of placement of the material.
How should I prepare?
We recommend that you schedule your session at least 2 weeks prior to any special event in your life. This allows most of the possible bruising and swelling to settle and the product to fully integrate into the lip tissue.
You are advised to stop taking the following medications and supplements at least 7 days prior to the treatment:
- Aspirin
- Ibuprofen or related NSAIDs
- Ginseng
- Fish Oil/Omega-3 fatty acids
- Vitamin E
- Gingko Biloba
- St John’s Wort
On the day of appointment, don’t forget to eat a well-balanced breakfast including food and drink to minimise the chance of dizziness during treatment.
Does it hurt?
As a dentist, we are able to use our knowledge and ability to give you a dental injection that will make it a more comfortable experience. If you prefer, a topical anaesthetic cream only can be used for the procedure. It needs to be applied 20-30 minutes prior to treatment. If you prefer a combination of dental injections and topical cream we can also accommodate that. Depending on your preference, ice may also be used to cool the skin and serve as a numbing distraction.
What to avoid after my appointment?
Temporary side effects include but are not limited to: swelling, bruising, itching and/or burning. Most patients will be able to see immediate results following their filler treatment. However, it takes times for the treatment to fully settle, the filler to fully integrate into the tissue and any swelling and bruising to subside before you can see the final result. It usually takes about 7-14 days to see the final effects of the filler treatment. For optimum results, please follow your cosmetic dentist’s post-treatment care instructions.
What to expect after my appointment?
In the first 4-6 hours – avoid make-up, exercise and laying down.
In the first 24 hours – avoid exercise, excessive alcohol, facial treatments, rubbing/massaging/manipulating the area, extreme heat/cold (sun/sauna) and air travel
In the first 48 hours – do not take any aspirin, anti-inflammatory or blood thinning medication
In the first 2 weeks – avoid facials, microdermabrasion treatments, laser therapies or liquid nitrogen therapies.
How long will results last?
Results depend on the type of dermal fillers used and will be discussed at the time of consultation. Duration depends on numerous factors as well as your body’s ability to naturally break down the dermal filler molecules.
